Maine Surveying & Mapping is the practice of Judd Vear, PLS — a licensed professional land surveyor whose career runs from nation-wide utility and easement surveys, through over a decade managing complex public and private survey projects at regional engineering firms, to serving as Chief Surveyor for the City of Portland.
That background brings the capabilities normally associated with larger firms — such as rigorous control networks, ready-to-use 3D models, and defensible boundary analysis — directly to each project. The same surveyor leads the work from start to finish, without handoffs, added layers, or communication gaps.
The practice is kept deliberately lean so each project receives direct attention and capacity remains available when timing or complexity matters: a boundary survey requiring careful retracement, the lot division that has to close this month, the construction layout that can’t wait, the boundary headed toward a hearing. Difficult records, contested lines, and involved legal cases are welcome here — not avoided.
Research-driven retracement and defensible resolution of contested, clouded, or complicated boundary lines.
Surveys, plans, legal documents, and guidance to divide, reconfigure, or create parcels — from a single split to subdivision work.
Precise layout, staking, and as-built for projects that demand tight tolerances and fast turnaround.
Existing-conditions, topographic, and control surveys that give design teams a reliable foundation to build on.
Independent analysis, exhibits, and testimony for boundary disputes and other legal proceedings.
Control networks, mobile & aerial GCP networks, and challenging sites where accuracy and documentation truly matter.
